After high school education, she enrolled for a four-year Diploma Hotel Management Course at the prestigious Kenya Utalii College in 1984. This was a rigorous hospitality course that encompassed all aspects of hotel keeping and tourism management that prepared him for management and general operation of hotel and tourism business.
During her college course work she had the opportunity to do internship with some of the leading hotel chains (companies) in Kenya; African Tours & Hotels that operated Mombasa Beach and Two Fishes Beach Hotel in Diani.!
In 1988 she joined the industry as a Trainee Manager with the Sarova Hotels & Lodges at Sarova Lion Hill. After one year, she was transferred to New Stanley Hotel (now renamed The Stanley) where she worked in different capacities; Assistant Food & Beverage Manager, Assistant Front office Manager, Deputy Food & Beverage Manager and Ag. Food and Beverage Manager. While at The Stanley, she took charge of all food and beverage operations and streamlined the Banqueting department. This is where she garnered and sharpened her skills in hotel operations with particular attention to Banquets and Events. Her performance at the Stanley was so exemplary that she was one of the managers that was taken to Avari in Dubai for a cross-exposure program in October 1996.
In October, 1997 she left Sarova Hotels and joined Kenya Utalii College from where she managed to shape her career growth path both as an industry practitioner and in Academia.
She is an accomplished academic and industry professional with a distinguished background in hospitality management and business.
She holds a PhD in Hospitality Management from Kenyatta University (2011-2019), a double Master's Degree in International Hospitality Management from London Metropolitan University and Stenden University (2007-2008), a First-Class Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing from the University of Nairobi (2001-2005), and a Diploma in Hotel Management from Kenya Utalii College (1984-1988).
She has extensive experience in organizational leadership, curriculum development, and strategic planning within the hospitality sector. Her expertise includes staff training and development, high-level operational management, and building strong professional relationships.
In 2017, she was honoured as one of the Top 100 Women in Tourism in Africa by African Travel Quarterly Magazine, recognizing her significant contributions to the industry. She has gained valuable exposure through her travels to various destinations worldwide, attending meetings, trade fairs, and exhibitions such as ITB and WTM, where she has broadened her global perspective on tourism and hospitality.
She is currently a lecturer at Kenyatta University, where she is giving back to society by mentoring and shaping the next generation of tourism and hospitality leaders. She also serves as Chairperson of the Nairobi Region for the Kenya Association of Hotel Keepers and Caterers (KAHC) and is a member of Kenya Association of Women in Tourism (KAWT), Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK), Tourism Professional Association, (TPA) among others.
She is a distinguished expert in the fields of employee development, customer satisfaction, and service quality within the hospitality industry. With an impressive body of work spanning research and practice, she has made significant contributions to enhancing service standards and workforce training in hospitality. In addition to their expertise in service excellence, she is a leading authority in curriculum development and review for the hospitality and tourism sectors, shaping educational programs that equip future leaders with the skills needed to thrive in this dynamic industry. Through their pioneering work and dedication to both professional development and academic advancement, she has played a key role in elevating the standards of both the workforce and the educational framework in hospitality and tourism. Known for her integrity, analytical skills, and leadership, she continues to make a lasting impact in the hospitality and tourism sectors.
